Lower Mountain
Fork
The
Lower
Mountain Fork River Foundation (LMFRF) was founded in 2002
for the sole purpose of enhancement and improvement of the trout
fisheries of the lower Mountain Fork River. The LMFRF donates directly
to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) by funding
particular projects which will improve trout habitat.
ODWC is currently working
on a
study of the water quality in the
lake above the stream, to determine ways to create colder water flow
into the Lower Mountain Fork.
White River
The White River in
Arkansas, along with the Norfork River, have been experiencing low
dissolved oxygen (DO) levels, and are seeking
"impaired river" status with the EPA
to provide funding to research the problem. Trout typically
require 6 ppm of DO, and the water coming out of Bull Shoals dam
during the summer frequently experiences DO of only 1.4 to 1.6 ppm,
resulting in fish kills near the dam, and impaired oxygen levels
downstream as well.
